About RONTEC

Rontec is a prominent player in the UK forecourt industry, renowned for operating over 260 petrol stations across England and Wales under major brands such as Esso, BP, and Shell. The company has a rich history, having been formed through the visionary leadership of Sir Gerald M Ronson CBE, who founded Heron Service Stations in 1966. This pioneering start led to the introduction of modern roadside retail concepts and the establishment of a substantial network of service stations.

In 2011, Rontec was established to acquire the retail network of Total Oil UK, and it later merged with Snax24 in 2015, further solidifying its position as one of the UK's largest independent forecourt operators. Beyond fuel, Rontec's stations serve as community hubs, offering convenience retailing and services under various store brands including Shop’N Drive, Spar, and Morrisons Daily. Rontec is committed to innovation, customer service, and sustainable practices, aiming to meet the evolving needs of consumers and communities it serves.

 Our History

Founded in 1966 by Sir Gerald M Ronson CBE, Rontec emerged as a pioneering force in the UK’s roadside retail sector with the introduction of the first self-service petrol station in St Albans. This innovation set the stage for a network that would grow to over 1,000 forecourts, consistently pushing the boundaries of customer service and convenience. In the early years, Rontec quickly demonstrated its market potential by selling 30 garages to Shell in 1968 and continued to expand by developing sites for major oil companies like Shell, BP, and Texaco throughout the 1970s.

The introduction of the Snax24 brand in 1992 marked a new era of diversification and service enhancement at Rontec’s locations, operating numerous BP-branded outlets. A significant expansion occurred in 2011 with the formation of Rontec to acquire Total UK’s retail network, which merged with Snax24 in 2015, creating one of the UK’s largest independent forecourt operators. Today, led by Sir Gerald, Rontec operates over 260 stations across England and Wales, partnering with well-known retail brands such as Esso, BP, Shell, Shop’N Drive, Spar, and Morrisons Daily, and continues to lead with a commitment to innovation and excellence in the forecourt industry.
